This guide is made to help people interested in my "You've been Lord of Terror'd!" deck. It can also help people playing other common Lord of Terror burn decks.

Read the deck linked to this guide
  • 3 Imperial Guard 3
  • 3 Plague Bearer 3
  • 2 Defender of the Homela... 3
  • 4 1 Seifer's Fodder 1
  • 4 2 Grim Guard 2
  • 2 2 Seifer's Wrath 2
  • 1 Falcon Dive 3
  • 2 Famine 3
  • 2 1 Architect 1
  • 6 2 Lord of Terror 3
  • 3 2 Derelict Tower 3
  • 3 Rebel Slinger 3

Starting hand

  • If you have a LoT, KEEP IT. But don't keep 2!
  • Try to have at least a Rebel Slinger, or an Imperial Guard, or a Defender of the Homeland, or a Plague bearer. This will help to harvest on T2.
  • For the third card, events like Seifer's Wrath/Famine/"Plague bearer"/Falcon dive are still good to have

Early game

Your first job is securing at least 1 well. If you have the Explore card, play it in front of your orb then make a mountain on the left or right of it. If you don't have it, create two prairies starting from in front of your orb and then to the right or the left (to choose the side you should go, look at what the opponent strategy looks like from its first turn, and decide accordingly).

Then, summon a Rebel Slinger if possible on the farthest tile you can. If no RS, Imperial Guard. If no IG, Defender of the Homeland. If no DotH, Seifer's Fodder. If no SF, Plague bearer. The idea is to be able to harvest T2. This deck does not need much Faeria, but I often found that without at least 1 well harvest per turn I'm a bit short to be able to make wombo combos.

T2

Create a moutain towards the well you selected at T1. Move your creature on it to harvest. If the enemy played an "annoying" creature that has 1 or 2 life, you can think to Seifer Wrath it or play 1 or 2 Derelict Towers and ping it once or twice. Use the second option if you have the Architect in hand.

The Wait for a LoT

Control the opponent while waiting to be able to play a LoT. For that you can use all you have at your disposal, but remember that events like Falcon Dive, "Plague bearer", Famine and most of Derelict Towers shots should be reserved for use on your LoT. Plus, each time you use a card, remember that it's that much Faeria you won't have for your first wombo combo when you'll summon your LoT. Make sure you can always harvest by summoning RS/IG/DotH/SF to replace dead harvester. You can also sometime summon a Grim Guard if you really want to secure a well + annoy the opponent + taunt a possible "double harvester" (ie an enemy harvester between that goes from one well to another in 1 turn).

I HAVE IT, THE PRECIOUS CAME TO ME AT LAST!

The idea is to bring yourself in a position where, whatever the other does, if it's not pure removal (like a transform or yellow removal), he is assured to loose next turn. And there is the gamble: you hope that he does not have the removal for you long-awaited LoT! Usually, if you managed to survive up to now, you already made a bit of damage to the opponent. He may even have lost life himself using altar of souls, forsaken library or cards like that. So don't despair, you still have two other LoT in your deck! Do NOT play your LoT automatically when you have it! Keep it to be able to make most use of it next turn or 2 turns later! You want to summon a LoT when you'll we able to summon 1 or 2 Derelict Towers, or Falcon dive it once or twice, all that the same turn it comes into play. Usually, I don't play an LoT unless I have the possibility to ping it at least 3 times the turn it comes into play. What's cool with this strategy is that while waiting for your LoT to arrive, you made a pretty good stock of cards in your hand. It should contains almost all the tools you need to end up victorious in 1 turn or two if the LoT is not removed at the opponent's next turn.

Difficulties

One problem of these LoT decks is that as long as you do not have this card in your hand, you can't do much but survive and do a little burn damage. This means that you could end up with not enough life when you finally can play the (expensive) Lord of Terror and might loose the game because it took too long to prepare the board for this strategy. To tackle this problem, there are several guidelines about how to play while waiting for a LoT:

  • Do not make many lands. The cards in this deck are primarily cheap red cards that only needs 2 mountains and a collection of neutral taunts and events. If you have the choice, draw cards to find a LoT as soon as possible.
  • Control the opponent board by making the most of your hand cards. Don't let him double harvest. Use Seifer's Wrath to kill weak harvesters, dealing burn damage. Falcon dive a Plague bearer if there are many enemies below 3 health. Do not hesitate sacrificing one of your harvester in the process if it kills 2+ enemy creatures!
  • If the opponent plays creatures like Shaytan Demon, sit back and use your evil laugh. Let this creature survive the longest time you can afford it, and taunt it to prevent it from attacking your orb.

Taunts Management

As you may have noticed, this deck contains many taunt creatures. This is because this strategy makes you very vulnerable: if you can't use efficiently your LoTs/summon them or find them in a draw quicky, it makes you able to survive for a rather long time, controlling the other player. That's why I used the strongest and cheapest taunts compromises I could find:

  • Imperial Guard: Cheap taunt that gives 2 life when it dies. 2 things you need when you don't have a LoT on the board!
  • Defender of the Homeland: Will help you a lot if your are in a difficult position where the enemy is already attacking your orb (or if you face a rush).
  • Grim Guard: Lots of life, taunt and burn damage. Often used in combination with the LoT to prevent a strong enemy from attacking the LoT or to help having lethal for next turn thanks to the burn damage.
